Classic Tee

There’s a great classic mashal that has been told repeatedly when speaking on the topic of shidduchim. (I k u couldn’t guess this on your own….) Shidduchim is like a waiting room. And you choose what you do in the waiting room. You can either sit and kvetch. Or you can say tehillim/learn Chovos/call your grandmother. This is a wonderful mashal. It is so wonderful that it made it onto this page. But there’s a piece of the mashal that is often forgotten. When Sitting in the waiting room we all look around (whether or not we are secretly judging the other people waiting is a conversation for another time). We notice who was there before us, and who came in after. And after twenty minutes when they call a name that’s not yours you look up (from your chovos/tehillim/phone call because you are utilizing your time) and you see someone who arrived after you being called in. You check your watch, tap your foot and maybe even go speak to the receptionist. And at a certain point as productive as you may have been, you are thoroughly frustrated. You think “I GOT HERE FIRST!”. You look around and ask yourself “why am I still here?”. And that is shidduchim. We often ask ourselves. Why am I still here? It is so important to validate these moments. And realize that it is ok to feel like the day is over an we are still here, just waiting.
